Audition Workshop
Knowing that auditioning can be a nerve-wracking experience, PALOA is pleased to offer again, for the fourth time, an Audition Workshop to empower actors and give them the confidence they need to best showcase their talents in an audition format.
The Workshop will be Friday, March 12th from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at the PALOA Center, 522 Mt. Pleasant Road. Cost of the workshop is $10.00 per person. The workshop will be taught by directors and seasoned actors who will walk you through successful techniques and strategies to help you prepare to audition.
This workshop is great for actors of all (or no) experience (recommended for ages 12 and up). This is not a pre-audition for Oklahoma! but a great way to mentally prepare for the PALOA auditions the following week, March 19th and 20th. The audition format of the workshop will be taught in the same format as the actual PALOA show auditions. Cast members from the past shows have really appreciated the confidence boost they gained from taking this workshop prior to auditions. We hope to see you there...and at auditions!

Synopsis of Oklahoma!
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Curly and Laurey both have feelings for each other but have difficulty expressing it because of their stubborness. Although the road to true love never runs smooth (Laurey is also actively courted by Jud Fry, the hired farm hand with a dark, sinister past), love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!
Featuring some of the most well known and beloved songs in American Musical Theater, including, "Oh What a Beautiful Morning," "Surrey with the Fringe on Top," "People Will Say We’re in Love," "I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say No" and of course, the title song, "Oklahoma!," this show is chock full of great characters, music and sparkling dialogue that makes it a landmark hit. (For a detailed plot synopsis, please visit www.paloa.org.)
CAST REQUIREMENTS: PRINCIPALS - 3 Women - 4 Men
ENSEMBLE - Oklahoma! has great chorus demands with lots of singing and dancing for a spirited, engaged chorus to represent the territory farmers, cowboys and their families.

PALOA Offers Fencing Classes
As many of you know, PALOA has started offering fencing classes at the PALOA center. The first two beginner classes are almost finished and were very successful. We are very fortunate to have Chris Barnes, as our Fencing Master. Chris has competed nationally for over 15 years and is an excellent teacher. The next set of classes will start soon. This time PALOA will be offering an intermediate fencing class as well as another beginner class. (Intermediate at 6:00 p.m. and Beginner at 7:30). If we have enough students additional classes will be added.
In addition, in anticipation of next summer’s production of Peter Pan, PALOA will be offering a class in stage sword fighting. The class will be taught by Ron Graham. Ron worked for years as a professional stunt man and has extensive training and experience in staging and choreographing stage sword fights. Ron will also be directing the sword fight scenes for Peter Pan. The sword fight scenes in Peter Pan will be using real swords and the choreography will be very intense. So, anyone interested in auditioning for a part as a pirate or a lost boy is strongly encouraged to take this class. The classes will start on November 12, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. (These times may be adjusted if we have enough students for two classes.)
These classes are open to anyone regardless of experience. The classes are taught once a week for ten weeks and cost $125, which includes all the equipment. If you would like to sign up, or if you have any questions, please contact Bob Lumens atnwpa@olypen.com.
Thank you,
